Playing with relax is one of the goal for all extreme drummers.
Can you introduce your band?
Temma:
I play the drums in three bands 死んだ細胞の塊(Shinda Saibo No Katamari), Strangulation and Fecundation. All the bands above are working on brutal and technical stuff.

How did you practice with high speed drumming?
Temma:
Honestly, I’ve not practiced so much on pads even though I have 5 or 6 practice pads. Mainly working on a lot of songs across genres of music and playing in some bands made me. I recommend to spend much time on listening songs with imagination. Think about what they think to play, actual phrases, gears and settings in detail.
I’m a gear freak, so let me talk about gears. Try everything that you have interest. If it’s not fit for you, just sell it. Price of secondhand musical gear is pretty stable. Don’t afraid to spend much money on.
Do you have warming up before playing the show and how?
Temma:
Yes I do. Stretching joints especially wrist and arm at first, and doing stone killer, paradiddle, accent patterns. However, I’m so exhausted even in first song on the set almost every time haha. Playing with relax is one of the goal for all extreme drummers, but it’s seriously tough to make it. I’m on my way, it haven’t achieved even 50%! God damn it!
Which performance in your life impressed you the most and why?
Temma:
It’s definitely on Shinda Saibo Indonesian tour 2018 as headliner. The situation was total unfamiliar circumstances like gears and monitor system made us so nervous to play. Above all, we don’t have time to there were so much people waiting for us and MC guys were calling our name even in sound check. Above all, we don’t have time to check everything. I learned the phrase show must go on!
In such a densely populated city in Asia, how do you plan the practice room?
Temma:
Yea, that’s the problem we are confronted.Monthly rent isn’t usual case (there’s some studio but illegally expensive), so we rent hourly.
I’ve heard Seoul situation that there’s monthly studio with nice price. Jealous. I dream sometimes, but I don’t have real plan to own practice room so far.
Can you introduce your drum set?
Temma:
Of courpse, but I don’t have my own kit but only cymbals and snare. Mainly I use Byzance traditional medium 16”,18”Crashes, 15” Hats, 10” Byzance and MB20 splashes and MB20 Heavy hammered ride. I’m huge holy China Lover, so I use Sabian for 19” and 21”China.
Oh I forgot to mention my big boy Sonor Bell bronze 14”x6.5”. It’s almost 10kg monster. This is my ideal one though I experienced too many snares. I In my opinion, thick shell is to thick sound what clear head is to clear tone.

List your five favorite bands or drummers.
Temma:
It’s seriously tough to choose top 5, so I pick up my heroes and talk about them.
Flo Mounier - is absolute my hero. He dragged 13 years old me into death metal drumming. He plays completely aggressive, but it’s like singing with sense of humor. I also love his later works. He has done great job on first three records and he couldn’t stop to cultivate new area. That’s awesome. These days he changed pedal Pearl to Axis and use double stroke on feet. Some people complain, but I can’t help respecting it. I love you Florence.

Sean Reinert - He’s the one of the originator of the drummer who combines metal and jazz fusion. I also love his later works close to acoustic side, but my favorite part is his early live footage after releasing Focus. He used to play Cynic with tons of improvisation. His tons of ghost notes completely made his Sean-flow. Technically speaking, he uses paradiddle things effectively in metal context. And his left foot started double bass with hats is bloody mind blowing. Rest in Peace, Sean. Still regretting that I didn’t go Japan tour 2015.
Btw, recently I’m into 3rd album of Entombed and Dismember that is close to Death‘n’roll style riff. I can’t stop banging even when I’m on duty lol

Can you give one piece of advice to younger drummers?
Temma:
"Be open for every kind of music."
I love the drummer with musical backgrounds not only metal or grind. But the other hand, I love the drummer who have been playing one single style haha.
BTW, Is there any recommended local food in Japan?
Temma:
It’s too many to mention, so eat what you guys like! I can give you a tip to try same food on different price range. Cheap sushi is fun to choose and not so bad, expensive sushi is just awesome to meet expectations. Ramen is like metal scene. I mean, quite a lot.
