I just keep telling myself to endure the pain and go faster.
How many bands have you playing?
Polwach:
Damn haha I can’t remember and list them all here so you can see the list either here: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Polwach_Beokhaimook/535051
or here: https://linktr.ee/polwachbeokhaimook
Smallpox Aroma live show at Lido Connect 2022/06/04
Ecchymosis live show at Lido Connect 2022/06/04
Biomorphic Engulfment live show at Lido Connect 2022/06/04
How do you memorize so many songs?
Polwach:
I can’t actually. When I play it goes naturally. I guess it comes from a lot of practices until you get used to it. Sorry if this doesn’t answer the question.
How did you practice with high speed drumming?
Polwach:
I don’t have any specific technique. I just keep telling myself to endure the pain and go faster. Anyway, I apply what I guess they call "flying finger" technique. When going fast, I hold the stick loosely (but not too loosely, of course) with my index finger and thumb, and control the speed with the rest of my fingers. Hope this helps.
Do you have warming up before playing the show and how?
Polwach:
Sometimes I don’t sometimes I do. When I do I normally hold both sticks and kinda twist my wrists and stretch my arms along with them. Hard to explain haha. But I do that for only 30 seconds or 1 minute.
Can you share with some drum recording experience?
Polwach:
It’s always under pressure. I don’t use metronomes so it’s best to go single takes. Mistakes are always there but most of the time I let them be.
Can you introduce your snare drum?
Polwach:
I use a cheap ass local one called CMC Prelude Steel 14” x 7”. Tuned tight and it gets super great ping. It’s my baby boy. Badass.
Which performance in your life impressed you the most and why?
Polwach:
There is that one with Smallpox Aroma in Kathmandu in Nepal. I was sick but after I performed I got well. The audience went super crazy and very supportive.
List your five favorite bands or drummers.
Polwach:
Impossible to list only five bands, my apologies! Same goes with drummers, but those who come into my head right now are Jon Engman (ex-Brodequin), Marc Palmen (ex-Last Days of Humanity), Brad Fincher (Devourment), Eihar Unamuno (Cerebral Effusion), and Alexander Fursov (Inopexia). These guys are some of my major influences.
Can you give one piece of advice to younger drummers?
Polwach:
I’m neither influential nor professional enough to give professional advice. But I’d say this sincerely. Practice well before you enter the studio.
"Don’t cheat when you record. Deliver your real talent and sound natural".
BTW, do you have any pets?
Polwach:
I own a turtle. But I always go to see a super tame cat named Cookie. He belongs to Twish, guitarist of one of my brutal death metal bands Ecchymosis.
